Covered Transportation LLC (CT) began operating in 2011 with 5 new Peterbilt 386 tractors and 53’ Utility thin wall reefer trailers equipped with Carrier Vector units and side skirts. The tractors are equipped with electric APU units from IdleFree and have Shorepower. The tractors and the trailers are each equipped with the latest technology: International Telematics IBright communication and control systems. The IBright system allows CT to geofence, such as an hour from delivery and notify the receiver; to reset from the dispatchers desktop a temperature setting for the trailer if the driver is off duty; to measure the metrics of speed, cornering, braking, fuel consumption, fuel tank filling, stops for DOT inspections, open door alerts and exact location by GPS. Communication is to the dashboard unit accessed when the unit is stopped and each driver is equipped with a cell phone.
In 2012, 10 additional identical units were added to the fleet. 45 new units are in the process of being added over 3 years. The first Owner – Operator will begin driving under CT authority in March 2014, and we intend to add more to the fleet.
CT operates throughout the USA, Canada, the Mexican border and ports. Because the fleet is so young, it meets all current requirements for CARB and supports SmartWay.
CT also supports the Wounded Warrior Project and the Walter Payton Foundation.
